BBRATT Diet

Sickness has hit the Byerly household. On Friday, I woke up before James' alarm and felt TERRIBLE. James thought it was just food poisoning, so he went to work. I tried to continue my day, but even after I took my prenatals, I knew I wouldn't last long. I called James and he came home afterwards to take care of me and to help out with Alex. Then on Saturday and Sunday, Alex was feeling sick, so we stayed in the whole weekend. Now James is sick and the sickness took over him today. We don't do a lot of medicines in this house. Usually Echinacea tea and EmergenC are our "go-to" remedies. But for this week, we have all done the BRAT diet.

Everyone has heard of the BRAT diet when you are not feeling well, it is a remedy to ease your stomach if you're vomiting or having diarrhea. I actually have never heard of this diet until I met James, but it stands for:

B - Bananas
R - Rice
A - Applesauce
T - Toast

This diet essentially is suppose to help your stomach be able to digest the bland food, while not a lot of doctors recommend it, it works wonderfully for the first day of the sickness. Water with electrolytes are mandatory with a diet like this. I highly recommend going back to a regular diet after 24 hours because you would have lost a lot of important nutrients.

After the Byerly family experiences, I've added to the BRAT diet and redone it as the BBRATT diet.

B - Broth
B - Bananas
R - Rice
A - Applesauce
T - Toast
T - Tea

While any of us are sick, James and I always ask for a cup of chicken broth. Works miracles and helps you feel a little more alive. Drinking tea is something I know can be part of the BRAT diet, but not always. Nothing can beat a warm cup of chamomile tea.

As a Korean, I would HIGHLY recommend kimchi with rice and chicken noodle soup. My mom would always make it for me and I can tell you that as your first real meal, it truly does work!

Time to make sure my husband is feeling well. Quick side note, I passed my glucose test and I officially don't have gestational diabetes! We'll see how big Baby Jo measures in.
